Editor’s Pick(Test): England - South Africa Test IV

This is the fourth test match of this series. The last one. England lead the series two to one. If England win, they walk away with the cup. On the other hand, if South Africa win, the tournament is a draw. England’s captain, Root has done a formidable job in leading the team so far. They have waited for almost two decades for a home series victory. Even a draw will mean that England win the tournament. They need to play smart cricket to end the drought.
South Africa on the other hand will not back down either. They displayed a dismal performance at the Champions Trophy early this year. South Africa will give it their all.

Let’s take a look at my possible lineup

Batsmen
Joe Root
Alastair Cook
Hashim Amla
Tema Bavuma
Dean Elgar
Bowlers
Morne Morkel
Keshav Maharaj
Toby Roland
Stuart Broad
Kagiso Rabada
Wicket Keeper
Jonny Bairstow

Alternate lineup
Ben Stokes
Toby RJ
Dean Elgar
K rabada
Morne Morkel
Moeen Ali
Jonny Bairstow
Alastair Cook
James Anderson
Joe Root
Quinton De Kock

What do you think? Base the lineup based on the previous test match performers? Or your own?

Olympic Coverage

What does Olympics mean for you?
I have watched the last couple of Olympics in NBC in the US.The coverage was all US (understandable, though irritating) and it was all about the US players.Where they come from, their trials and tribulations, their sacrifices, the heartaches, the dizzying success, their work ethic – everything added to the narrative for me.It was always the personal story that got me and kept me tuning in and watching all kinds of sports.
This time, I am watching it in India. There is a lot more coverage of events that India is not participating in (understandable – India does not participate in much J) and so the event is truly international. But there are NO stories.  This is just one event after another without pausing to cover the players involved at all.   I cannot distinguish one athlete from the other.I can’t pick favourites, because I do not know much about anyone.Given this, I am unable to watch a lot of sports that I do not necessarily care about.
Give me NBC any …

Editor's Pick (T20): India - New Zealand

The ODI series of three matches was really fun. Close finish. Big numbers on the board. There are gonna be more people expecting more excitement from the T20 matches that begin tomorrow - 1st November 2017.And why not?

A little bit of trivia. Did you know that the first T20 match was played on June 13th, 2003? Introduced in England and Wales, it was played between the two English Countries. The first international match was played by women. Yup you read that right. England and New Zealand Women. By men later in 2005. India’s first ICC World T20 was in 2016. Fun facts - Pakistan is the first and only team to have played 100 T20 international cricket matches. Wonder how that happened. India has played 72 and won 44 of them. Most sixes in an innings is by Netherlands. Yup that’s right. Virat Kohli holds the record of most runs in a calendar year with 536 runs in 11 innings. This happened in 2016. He also holds the record for most fifties in his career. Yay Kohli.

Coming to tomorrow’s mat…

Editor’s Pick (T20): India - Sri Lanka

A young and relatively inexperienced team, the players are full of enthu and raring to go as they face Sri Lanka at home tomorrow for their first T20 match of the Nidahas Trophy. I’ll tell you one thing. India is full of confidence. The boys have beaten the lions before in their own den. Not just beaten but a brutal defeat the Lions faced. Team Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will not take this team lightly. Yes, they are young. Yes, many players are playing for the country for the very first time. But that does not make the players any less lethal or skilled. In fact, the young players are likely to be passionate and aggressive from the word go.
